With a little explanation, you will be able to understand the numbers that are present on the walls of the tyres. It is quite common for anyone to get confused, as different models carry different wheel types and numbers. Most importantly, finding the difference and how does it affect commuting is essential.

1.  Tyre Specification:

a.  P = when the number begins with P, then it is a P metric tyre and for use in passenger vehicles

b.  No letter = if there is no letter, then it falls in the European metric standard

c.  T = signifies as a spare tyre

d.  LT = if numbers begin with LT then it is for light truck metric

e.  LT = if numbers end with LT then it is for light truck metric

f.  C = if Euro-metric ends with C then it is commercial

g.  ST = if it begins with ST then it is Special Trailer Service

2.  Tyre Depth: it is the measurement of the top of the surface of the wheel to the bottom of the groove depth of the tyre.

3.  Tyre Radius: you can find the radius by calculating the section height and add it by the radius of the rim. The diameter of the rim is available in the numbers present on the tyre wall. For example, for 205/75-R15, the number 15 defines the diameter of the rim.

4.  Tyre Thickness: it is the measurement from one end of the wall to the other end.

Example: 205/75 R15

205 stands for the width in millimeters

75 indicates the aspect ratio tyre’s height with its section width

R is radial ply construction

15 indicates the rim diameter
