One of the main cause of such sound could be the damaged brake pad. If the brake is producing some unusual grinding sound when applied, then vehicle should be taken to a trusted repairing center. Damaged brake pad could also damage the rotors. Hence brake pad should be checked at a regular interval and if damaged should be replaced. Any types of unusual sound should not be ignored and should be repaired immediately.
